Cheating Online?
I never thought I’d make such a confession on a blog. It’s just that it’s eating at me. Last night I barely slept, I haven’t written a thing in days let alone been able to complete the more mundane tasks associated with our web hosting business.
I’ve come to the conclusion I must confess; there’s just no way around it.
I’ve been cheating on my favourite forum.
Now please, wait. Let me explain. It was innocent enough in the beginning, those of you guilty of this will know all too well how it starts.
A Private Message or two, something totally related to a public post of course, then another off topic comment perhaps. Something funny or some advice needed.
Then it comes, sooner or later; some reference or link to a website beyond the forum walls; a link to the web outside.
I’ve discussed this impending post with one of my fellow infidels.
Yes, I have to be cleansed completely… I have been unfaithful to the forum with two members and now (and this is why I must confess) with other forums. It appears my infidelity has become addictive -these past few weeks I’ve joined three new forums and continued my email relationships with fellow forum members.
I’m now in somewhat of a tangled web.
How do I return to my favourite forum and converse when all my questions have been asked and answered in whispered private converstaions?
Do I fake it?
Are my ever lengthening absences begenning to arouse suspicion? Where are my usual late night ramblings? Do I walk away or do I confess in the off topic “Chewing The Fat” and beg forgiveness?
… to be continued.

You know, forum monogamy is not for everyone. Maybe you are not a one forum sort of person, but more emotionally equipped to be a forum free-spirit? I say revel in your adventures! LOL.
Hi Robyn
I agree with Ellie - no need to feel guilty.
As you know, I run a forum and I understand that forum members come and go. Some will return and others will disappear to wherever it is that inactive forum members go (probably the same place as all the socks and pens).
Some weeks it’s so quiet that when I login to the forum on my website I am half expecting a tumble weed to roll across the screen, but I do understand that as hard as it is to believe (shock, horror), forum members do have lives outside of my website and I’m sure the other forum will understand this too.
I think I know the forum you are referring to the “chewing the fat” reference kind of gave it away

That’s a very good article.

Hi Ed,
Of course my article is tongue in cheek.
I did check out your website and I’m sure that your business is in much demand, though it’s a little sad that it’s needed.
I am curious about the relevance of your email checker though - surely many people who register an email address with a dating service also use that email address for other purposes?
I’m so glad I have never had the feeling that a partner was either unfaithfaul or on the verge of being unfaithful. The mistrust must be as maddening as the betrayal.
Thanks for your comments and good luck with your website and business.
Regards,
Robyn
